Successful start for RTL Televizija in Croatia
RTL Group’s tv channel already achieves leading position at its start
Luxembourg, 2 May 2004 – RTL Televizija was launched on Friday, 30 April 2004 at 6pm CET in Croatia. RTL Group’s station obtained a remarkable audience share of 39.1 %* of the audience (target group 18-49) in the prime time for the programme which included entertainment, information and news. The audience share result for RTL Televizija meant that its competitors were significantly behind: 22.6 % watched the public channel HRT 1, 19.8 % opted for HRT 1 and the private channel Nova was only watched by 11.1 % of the viewers.
On Saturday, 1 May 2004 RTL Televizija was again number one in the target group of 18 to 49 years old and this despite the strong programming of its competitors. The average daily market share for RTL Televizija was 30.7 % followed by HRT 1 (26.3 %) and HRT 2 (20.1 %) and Nova (11.6 %).
The start of the channel on Friday, 30 April 2004 was celebrated with a ceremony in Zagreb. The Croatian President Stjepan Mesic, RTL Group’s Chief Executive Officer Gerhard Zeiler and Hans Mahr, Chairman of the Synergy Committee of RTL Group were present, amongst others.
The Croatian President Stjepan Mesic: “Competition in the media is important for the democracy in Croatia. We are delighted about the successful start of RTL Televizija.”
Gerhard Zeiler, Chief Executive Officer of RTL Group commented: “This has been an excellent start. The good start confirms our strategy to continue our geographical expansion in Eastern Europe.” Zeiler especially thanked the team in Croatia under leadership of Klaus Ebert, Chief Executive Officer of RTL Televizija.
Hans Mahr, Chairman of the Synergy Committee of RTL Group said: “We won the license only nine months ago. We are delighted to have offered our audience such an attractive programme in such a short period of time.”
