Christopher Baldelli appointed new Chairman of RTL Radio’s Executive Board

RTL Group today announced that the Supervisory Board of RTL Radio in France has appointed Christopher Baldelli (44) as the new Chairman of RTL Radio’s Executive Board. Baldelli, who currently heads the thematic TV channels division of Groupe M6 (M6 Thématique), will take over his new responsibilities effective 1 August 2009. Vice President Jean-Michel Kerdraon and News Director Jacques Esnous, who successfully ran the company during the interim period, will remain in place as the other two members of the Executive Board.

RTL Group CEO Gerhard Zeiler said: “I’m very happy that we’ve found a strong and dynamic leader for our French radio business from within our Group. With his comprehensive experience in French media and his track record of growing new digital activities into profitable businesses, Christopher Baldelli is excellently qualified to continue RTL Radio’s success story.”

Rémy Sautter, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of RTL Radio in France, said: “I am delighted to welcome Christopher Baldelli at RTL Radio, whom I have known for years. His experience as an audiovisual media executive and the well-known successes are appreciated.”

RTL Group’s radio activities in France include the market-leading general-interest station RTL Radio, the music stations RTL 2 and Fun Radio and the digital radio station dedicated to sport and news, RTL L’Equipe, a 50/50 joint venture with the French sports daily L’Equipe.

Christopher Baldelli, born in 1965, joined RTL Group’s subsidiary Groupe M6 in June 2006 as its Secretary General of Programming. Since November 2006 he has been CEO of M6 Thématique, directing the company’s thematic TV channels such as W9, Téva and Paris Première. Under his leadership, the free digital channel W9 has consistently grown its audience to become the most-watched new DTT channel among young viewers. W9 first achieved a positive operating profit on an annual basis in fiscal year 2008.

Prior to joining Groupe M6, Baldelli worked in various executive positions for the public TV channel France 2 (1999 to 2005), including as its Directeur Général from June 2002 to August 2005, and for the media division of the Lagardère group (1997 to 1999).

After graduating from École Normale Supérieure at Saint-Cloud, Baldelli graduated from IEP Paris (Institut d'Études Politiques de Paris). From 1991 to 1997, he held various positions as a high civil servant, specialised in media regulation.
