Fons van Westerloo to Be the New Head of HMG
Luxembourg/Hilversum, August 1 2003 - RTL Group, the pan-European television and radio broadcaster and worldwide television producer, today announced the appointment of Fons van Westerloo as the new Chief Executive of HMG, its wholly-owned Netherlands subsidiary. Pursuant to Dutch law, HMG’s Works Council has today been asked for an advice on the appointment. The previous Chief Executive, Dick Van der Graaf, announced his resignation in July.
Mr van Westerloo, who is currently head of the Netherlands subsidiary of SBS, will join HMG at the end of September.
Having begun his career as a newspaper journalist, Mr van Westerloo became Head of News and Current Affairs, then General Manager of AVRO, the public broadcaster. He has also been General Manager of Satellite Business TV, Managing Editor and General Manager of AT 5, and Programming Director of RTL 5.
Since May 1995, he has been responsible for all Dutch broadcasting operations of SBS.
Mr van Westerloo said today: “I consider this new job a great honour and a tremendous challenge. HMG is the largest broadcasting group in the Netherlands and its expertise in the fields of journalism, broadcasting and television production is an excellent basis upon which to build further success for the company. Proud though I am of the eight-and-a-half years I shared with my colleagues at SBS, I am now really looking forward to taking up this new challenge alongside the management team at HMG.”
Gerhard Zeiler, Chief Executive of RTL Group, said today: “I am delighted Fons has agreed to join us. He brings enormous experience of the Dutch market and has achieved wonderful success with SBS in the Netherlands. I am convinced he is the right man to help us take HMG forward.”
