RTL Group appoints Hans Mahr and Robin Leproux to the Operations Management Committee

RTL Group, the pan-European television and radio broadcaster and producer, has appointed two new members to its Operations Management Committee.

Hans Mahr will join in the newly created role of Executive Co-Ordinator of Group Synergies, while Robin Leproux joins as Head of RTL Group’s French radio operations.

As Executive Co-ordinator, Mahr will be responsible for identifying and realizing projects of mutual interest within RTL Group’s operating companies and also those of its majority shareholder, Bertelsmann AG. In this function, he will report directly to Didier Bellens, Chief Executive Officer.

Hans Mahr has been a charismatic figure in German broadcasting and programme-making for eight years. As Director of Information and Chief Editor of RTL Television he is responsible for all the station’s news, magazines and sports, including its highly acclaimed Formula One coverage. He is especially credited with the successful efforts, which established RTL as the leading news provider, especially within the key 14-49 year old target group in Germany. He will retain his position within RTL Television, in addition to the new role at Group level.

Didier Bellens said today: “It is essential that we have someone at senior level driving the identification and development of potential co-operation within our Group and with our major shareholder.  The position demands someone who knows about both programme-making and broadcasting, understands the RTL Group companies, and knows Bertelsmann.  I can’t think of anyone who fills all those requirements as perfectly as Hans Mahr, and I am delighted he has accepted the challenge.”

Hans Mahr said today:  “There is great potential for further co-operation between the range of companies within RTL Group and Bertelsmann which we need to develop. I am looking forward to realize this together with my colleagues.”

Robin Leproux joined RTL Radio in January 2001 as Chief Executive following a sharp decrease in the ratings of RTL, France’s leading radio station. In the last 18 months he and his team have restored the station’s position and, with its sister stations RTL 2 and Fun Radio, is France’s leading radio family.

Robin Leproux was previously Executive Vice President of M6 where he created and developed during these last 8 years all the diversification activities:  “M6 Interaction” with music, video, part work products sold in news stands, “Home Shopping Service” the French leading home shopping company, he finalized the joint venture with RTL Germany introducing the shopping programs in autumn 2000. He was responsible for the six cable and satellite channels of M6, and President of TF6 (joint venture with TF1) launched winter 2000.

Didier Bellens said:  “French radio is one of our most significant businesses. It is a model, a blueprint for the success of other RTL Group stations and operations across Europe and it is fitting that we include Robin on the Committee to reflect its importance to the Group.”
