CLT-UFA acquires 100% of Polandís RTL7

Luxembourg, July 26, 1999

CLT-UFA, Europeís leading broadcasting group, announced today that it has acquired 100% of the Polish Free-TV station RTL7. CLT-UFA and an affiliate of Universal Television & Networks Group signed an agreement in Luxembourg which transfers Universalís 50% stake to CLT-UFA, subject to filing with the Polish competition authority.

At the same time, RTL7 and Universal Studios International B.V. agreed upon a program licensing agreement for movies and television series.

Poland has more than 40 million potential TV viewers and an annual growth rate in the TV commercial market of 15%, which makes it the largest advertising market in Central Europe. "The Polish market is very promising for us. The take over of the Universal stake is part of the strategy of CLT-UFA to continue and strengthen our involvement in the field of Free-TV," says Executive Vice President TV of CLT-UFA, Pascal Farcouli.

"We are pleased that Universal will maintain its presence in the Polish market through a continuing licensing arrangement," said Alexander Trauttmansdorff, Vice President, business development, Europe, Universal Television & Networks Group. "The completion of this agreement also allows us to concentrate on subscription channels in markets around the world, including our branded networks which have been launched in major markets with in Europe."

RTL7, a private commercial TV network has been broadcasting since December 1996. Its family programming has a technical coverage of 43% and achieved a 4.2% market share in the relevant advertising target group of the 14-49 year old viewers. That makes it the most successful cable and satellite program in Poland.
